10 Offline Things I Did This Week
Skipped the Dôen sample sale and polished my jewelry instead
Good morning and welcome back to this week’s edition of 10 things where I share a list of everything I did (and didn’t do) that didn’t involve losing three hours to TikTok or checking the latest insights on how a post performed. (BUT WE ARE HUMAN AND THAT SOMETIMES DOES HAPPEN.)
10 Offline Things I Did This Week
Added freshly shaved Gruyère on top of my pasta instead of the usual Parm to mix it up, and it was nutty, creamy, and so good. I also finished this particular pasta dish off with a few drops of dealcoholized white wine in my skillet to give it that rich complexity and depth. I use Woody’s.
Grabbed a matcha with a friend and my dog. A yap, a matcha, and a friend’s company on a Sunday afternoon… what could be better?
Polished my jewelry. Let me tell you—there’s a special kind of satisfaction that comes with polishing silver and gold jewelry, and I swear it only unlocks once you hit your 30s. If your favorite pieces have built up tarnish or sweat (I wear my chain almost daily—showers, runs, everything), a little TLC goes a long way. Watching all that dirt and grime melt away? Sooo satisfying. I use Hagerty.
Waltzed into a bookstore by the water. If you’re in New York or are planning to visit this spring or summer, plan a weekend day to check out Freebird Books, a dog friendly book store filled with new, used, and vintage books. It’s perfect for perusing and afterwards you can grab yourself a matcha + pastry at Laurel Bakery down the street.
Unearthed another fantastic DJ set from the depths of Soundcloud history—this time, it’s Hot Since 82’s 2013 Kneep Deep mix. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been sharing my favorite SoundCloud DJ sets from 2011–2016 on IG, and it’s turning into a tradition—we’re calling it Sunday Sets. EDM was at its peak during those years—when everything felt possible. Or maybe it just felt that way because I was doing a lot of drugs. Either way, I just can’t stop listening to EDM sets from that time period. You can take the girl out of the club but you can’t take the club out of the girl. Enjoy this set, it’s so yummy for working/running/driving. A CHOOON, as they say.
Turned down going to a sample sale. Because just in the same vain is it important to share what offline things I did, it’s qually important to hear what I didn’t do. It was Dôen’s sample sale this week, and a friend asked if I wanted to meet her in Soho to attend. I love Dôen. I spend a lot of my money there. After experiencing a few sample sales in LA—where the vibe was downright bleak, the lines were long, and I watched girls ahead of me haul out piles of clothes (probably to resell?)—I realized the whole scene was fueled by a scarcity mindset. The energy was cutthroat, with women casting side-eyes like it was a survival competition. After that, I made a promise to myself: never again. Also, this story of a woman losing her pants at Rachel Comey’s sample sale is hilariously tragic, people are ruthless!) My peace of mind and nervous system would rather pay the extra $120 to shop in a calm atmosphere where the sizes are plentiful and the pressure is off. Also, sample sales are sales for a reason, it’s last leason, off colors, or weird sizes. The “I GOTTA GET IT BECAUSE IT’S ON SALE” energy is intense and I end up overspending on items I kind of like instead of buying a full-price item that I absolutely adore. Remember ladies: sometimes sales cue our fight or flight and we feel we need to act now. That urgency can cause us to make bad decisions. Slow down on your purchases and think hard and buy intentionally!
Attended my niece’s 3rd birthday party. Complete with a Billy’s Bakery cake and all! I love being an Auntie!
Revisted this photo of my great grandmother Bams looking like the queen of New England. Bams had such a vibe. Look at that hair. Coiffed. I wish I got to meet you, BAMS.
Dunked my head in the cold plunge and stayed fully under (not a single limb left above water) for three full seconds. Progress!!!
Sipped on a concoction of 1 minced garlic clove, a teaspoon of honey, a splash of lemon juice and apple cider vinegar. Topped with boiled water, this drink was my saving grace this week while I was battling a cold.
Ironed my t-shirts. Kind of along the same note of polishing jewelry, doing simple tasks to improve my life and wardorbe (like ironing tee’s, silks, and cotton blouses before putting them away) is becoming a norm for me. I used to not be an iron-er, but now I just feel slight embarrassment when I wear something with obvious wrinkles.
That’s all for this week. I’ll see you soon this week for another deep dive for paid subscribers on why I quit talk therapy (for now).
Will look out about your magic concoction (concoction of 1 minced garlic clove, a teaspoon of honey, a splash of lemon juice and apple cider vinegar)... I'm in need of saving solutions like these since last week...
About compulsive shopping I 100% agree with you and try to stay away from sales and popup stores and deals... Reduced my shopping newsletters down to two brands to know what's happening and just do "window-licking shopping" (is it the right expression?).
I find it hard spending too much time in Insta especially because I feel like that's where the danger is mostly, like Zara popping there to show a blouse I've never seen, tempting me when I'm at my most lazy-defensiveless attitude...
