I am re-reading Eat Pray Love right now.
Do we remember this 2006 hit? It was published on my birthday that year.
I love this book. The sheer determination this woman has to pursue pleasure and growth. Liz Gilbert is one of my biggest literary inspirations. I love all of her books, including Big Magic, but this one specifically lives in my head rent-free. I see parts of myself in her, such as her desire to share her experiences with the world.
I was young at the time, but my mother told me that when that book came out, along with the praise, she got a lot of flack for it. She was selfish, and privileged. Yes, has privilege and had the means to have this experience and for sure, not everyone does. No, she is not perfect. But Elizabeth is also a seeker. She does not exist to please everyone, no, but to experience things and share them with the world, so that we may learn from her.
